2011 Residential Master Course led by Dame Felicity Palmer

Oxford Lieder is delighted to welcome Dame Felicity Palmer to lead the fifth annual residential Master Course for advanced students during this year's Lieder Festival. Previous course leaders have been Sarah Walker and Ian Partridge.  Their masterclasses were a fascinating delight for audience and participants alike, and Felicity Palmer's style and insight will be no less accomplished.  It is a great pleasure and a privilege to host this special week once more.

The Master Course caters for 9 singer-pianist duos who will be resident in the city from 21st - 27th October for an exhilarating week of coaching as well as access to the full programme of Festival concerts. Applications are encouraged from all over the world, ensuring a high level of emerging talent. Classes with Felicity Palmer will take place throughout the day between 22nd and 25th October inclusive at the North Wall Arts Centre on South Parade.

Master Classes open to the public are on 23rd, 24th and 25th from 10am-1pm and 2-6pm. The course will culminate in an evening concert given by the participants as part of the Festival series in the Holywell Music Room, Oxford’s foremost chamber music venue, on Wednesday 26th October.

Felicity Palmer will be joined by three distinguished musicians as Visiting Tutors for three days of coaching on various facets of song performance. These additional coaching sessions are also open to the public and take place in the Music Department of St Edward’s School (across the road from the North Wall). This year’s tutors are the renowned accompanists Roger Vignoles and Julius Drake, and world-renowned mezzo Anna Larsson, who appears at the Festival on Saturday 22nd.  The participants are also offered technical troubleshooting or presence in performance sessions (not open to the public) by vocal coach Fiona Dobie.
