Oxford Lieder

Jesus College Visiting Artist Series

This exciting venture, now entering its second season, is a partnership between Jesus College (supported by the Kohn Foundation) and Oxford Lieder, each year bringing a world-renowned accompanist to Oxford to give three concerts with different well-known singers.

We are delighted to welcome Malcolm Martineau as the Visiting Artist for the 2007/8 season.  The first of his concerts takes place on Saturday 10th November, with the outstanding and ever-popular soprano Amanda Roocroft (click here for full details).  Baritone Christopher Maltman will make a return visit to Oxford Lieder for the second concert in the series on 18th January next year, and tickets for both these concerts are on sale now through TicketsOxford.

The first Jesus College Visiting Artist Series began in October 2006. Graham Johnson was the inaugural Visiting Artist and gave the first recital as part of the 2006 Oxford Lieder Festival with Daniela Lehner (mezzo-soprano) and Jared Holt (baritone).  He returned in January 2007 with soprano Geraldine McGreevy and was joined at the third concert, in June, by Ann Murray DBE.

On the same weekend as each concert, the Visiting Artist also gives a masterclass for five advanced singer-pianist duos. This is a wonderful opportunity for some excellent young musicians to work with an internationally celebrated artist with many years of experience.  Malcolm Martineau’s first-class first class will take place on Friday 9th November
