The Eighth Oxford Lieder Festival

16th - 31st October 2009

We continue to encourage emerging talent with lunchtime concerts featuring the best singers from three of Britain’s top conservatoires. Other exciting names in the offing include Werner Güra, Joan Rodgers and Sophie Daneman, as well as several recitals given by outstanding artists at the start of their careers.

In a new partnership with the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, tenor Ben Johnson and pianist James Southall (winners of the 2008 first prize and accompanists’ prize respectively), will give a recital on Thursday 22nd October. We are delighted to form a link with this prestigious award, by offering a recital in the festival to each year’s winner, and we are in for a real treat this year.

We are delighted to welcome back Sarah Walker CBE to coach on our week long Master Course which coincides with the festival, and many of the sessions will be open to the public. Her insight, enthusiasm and humour mean that the classes are always enjoyed by audience and students alike.

Our outreach programme continues to flourish and this year we will be working in three schools in and around Wallingford in the run-up to the Festival. Once again, the school children’s performance will open the Festival at lunchtime on Friday 16th. All in all, this will be another two-week celebration of song, with something for everyone and much to look forward to.
