Schools' Project
Friday 16th October
1.45pm - Wallingford School, St George’s Road, Wallingford
A concert of marvellous music, wonderfully written and perfectly performed by the superb students of Wallingford School, Crowmarsh Primary School and Fir Tree Junior School
This year, Oxford Lieder’s education project in local schools goes to the picturesque town of Wallingford. Over two weeks in the run up to the Festival, our workshop leaders John Barber and Sophie Grimmer will work with around 75 children, devising and developing a 40-minute programme of songs, with music and words written and performed by the children themselves. An exciting aspect of this particular project is the bringing together of different age groups, introducing the primary school children to their future secondary school, and giving talented GCSE and sixth-form students experience of leadership and collaboration. The results of these projects are always incredibly impressive, and members of the public are encouraged and urged to come and hear this amazing event. Entry is free, and there is no need to book. Come, support, and be amazed!
"Our pupils benefited so much from having the guidance of such committed and talented adults, who drew out the best of our pupils. I, for one, will never forget the attentive faces and deep concentration of our pupils and this was down to inspired teaching."
Keith Ponsford, Headteacher of Bayards Hill Primary School, on the 2006 project.
