Tenth Birthday Special Offer

Composer in Residence: Charlotte Bray

We are delighted to have, for the first time, a Composer in Residence, the outstanding young British composer Charlotte Bray. Described in the Daily Telegraph as "a composer who can generate a Bergian lyrical intensity through both a fluent vocal line and a richly expressive piano part", Charlotte has written a major new song cycle, Sonnets and Love Songs, commissioned by Oxford Lieder, that will be performed by Roderick Williams and Andrew West (Thurs 27th Oct, 8pm).

Richard Wagner is acknowledged as one of the towering influences on composers of the late 19th Century. During two study days, on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th October, we examine why this is, with particular reference to Liszt, whose bicentenary we celebrate this year, and Wolf, whose complete songs are being sung and recorded at Oxford Lieder concerts over the coming years.

The recital on Friday 6th May saw the release of our first disc in the series of the complete songs of Hugo Wolf on the new Oxford Lieder Live label, in association with Stone Records.

Passes for the 2011 Oxford Lieder Festival are now on sale

This year's festival dates are Friday 14th - Saturday 29th October. The brochure is in the process of being designed, and the full line-up will be announced here soon, but here's an idea of the shape of the festival fortnight to whet your appetite:

The opening weekend features all the songs Schubert composed from Die schöne Müllerin (written in 1824) until his death in 1828. Featuring 9 concerts in 3 days, this weekend will be a glorious start to the festival!

Saturday 19th March saw eight short-listed duos compete to be Oxford Lieder Young Artists. The prize is given as a series of sponsored recital opportunities around the UK, as well as platforms at the Oxford Lieder Festival and St John's Smith Square.
