Anna Anandarajah (soprano) is a second year postgraduate at the Royal College of Music, studying under the tutelage of Professor Timothy Evans Jones and is an Opperby Stokowski Scholar and a Fishmongers Company Scholar. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music first class honours degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Professor Rudolf Piernay. Most recently she won the RCM Brooks Van der Pump English Song Competition and took part in the RCM Lieder Competition where she was highly commended. This year Anna was a semi- finalist at the London Mozart Competition and is a semi-finalist for Hampshire Singer of the Year.

At the RCM Anna has sung in master classes with Susan Bullock, Roger Vignoles and Janis Kelly. In RCM scenes she has performed the roles of Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Aminta (Il re pastore). She was a member of the chorus for RCM’s Opera production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and is looking forward to taking part in the RCM’s collaboration with English Touring Opera in their production of Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri.

In the summer of 2011 Anna performed the roles of Pepik, Owl and the Frog in The Cunning Little Vixen with Ryedale Festival Opera and in the spring of 2011 Anna performed the role of the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) with London Youth Opera. In 2010 Anna was chosen for the British Youth Opera Easter workshops and in the summer she covered and performed the role of Fourth Nymph in Stephen Oliver’s adaptation of Jacopo Parry’s Euridice and was in the Chorus for Puccini’s La Boheme for BYO. She also attended Professor Piernay’s master classes at Mozarteum
International Academy in Salzburg.

In opera scenes at the GSMD Anna has performed Gilda (Rigoletto), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Arabella (Arabella) and First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and she was the soprano soloist in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms in GSMD’s tour of France under Leonardo Gaspini.

In November 2009 Anna was chosen and participated in a master class with Grace Bumbry in association with Voice of Black Opera. She has also performed as a soloist in Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Basingstoke Symphony Orchestra under Stephen Scotchmer, was a member of the GSMD chorus of Cavalleria Rusticana and Verdi's Requiem under Paulo Uomi, and was a member of the GSMD/RAM chorus for Beethoven’s Choral Symphony under Sir Colin Davis.

On the recital stage Anna is looking forward to performing a selection of lieder in the Oxford Lieder Festival. She has also performed Fanny Mendelssohn’s Opus No. 10 collection of songs in a Lieder recital for the Anglo-Japanese Society of Wessex at St Dunstan-in-the-West. Anna is also looking forward to taking part in the Samling master class series.
