Cecily Lock
Pianist Cecily Lock was born in The Netherlands to a German mother and an English father. She regularly performs in Britain and abroad. Her special interest lies in the study and performance of German Lied and English Song.
Cecily graduated with a degree in music from St. Hilda's College, Oxford in 2004, then with a degree in piano from the Amsterdam Conservatory in 2009. She is currently studying for an MA at the Royal Academy of Music, specialising in piano accompaniment with Julius Drake and Malcolm Martineau.
Whilst at Oxford Cecily was elected Music Scholar of St. Hilda's College and awarded the Hester Murray Naish Exhibition for her academic work in music. She was also a Scholar of the John Conway Foundation and in 2001 won the Oxford University Music Society Solo Performers' Competition.
In December 2010 Cecily was 'highly commended' in an English song competition at the Royal Academy of Music. In February 2011, together with countertenor Leo Tomita, she won the Sir Arthur Bliss Prize for the performance of 20th-century British song. In June 2011 she won the Elena Gerhardt Accompanist Prize. Other recent performances include appearances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Duke's Hall in London, the Muziekgebouw aan 't Ij in Amsterdam and the Holywell Music Room in Oxford.
Cecily is privileged to work on a regular basis with such singing teachers as Sarah Walker and Michael Chance. She is also committed to the performance of contemporary music and has recently played works by, amongst others, Robert Saxton, Anthony Powers and Bart Spaan.
Cecily is also a dedicated teacher. From 2006-2010 she taught piano to young children at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She is very grateful for the support of the Fonds Podiumkunsten, the Friends of the Royal Academy of Music, and the Music Students' Hostel Trust.
