Colin Scott

Pianist

Colin was born in Lanark, Scotland in 1985 and began to study the piano at the age of seven. In 1999 he was accepted into the Music School of Douglas Academy, Glasgow, to study piano with Jean Hutchison where his love for accompanying and chamber music was established. After winning a scholarship to study at Birmingham Conservatoire, Colin continued his studies with Professor Malcolm Wilson and Simon Nicholls. During his time at the Conservatoire, Colin performed in many masterclasses in both solo and accompanying roles with Graham Johnson, Andrew West, Peter Donohoe and Vladimir Tropp. His success in competitions was extensive between 2005 and 2008 when Colin won all five of the possible prizes for an accompanist in the Conservatoire as well as winning the Beryl Chempin Beethoven Prize for pianists in 2006. In November 2007 Colin was one of the four finalists in The Yamaha Birmingham Accompanist of the Year Award, a biannual international competition hosted by the Conservatoire.

Colin regularly performs in London and has appeared throughout the country, including concerts in Glasgow, Fenwick, Leeds, Oxford, Swindon, Chipping Campden, Birmingham and most recently Rotterdam and Düsseldorf. He has worked as a pianist at Elmhurst School for Dance for a year accompanying their ballet classes, rehearsals and performances. Colin now studies with Malcolm Martineau and Michael Dussek at the Royal Academy of Music on an EMI scholarship. He was also awarded a Musicians’ Benevolent Fund Education Award for Accompanists in 2008 and this year a scholarship from the Caird Trust. Following his first year of his masters at the Academy, Colin was awarded the Daniel Kelly prize.
