Jasia Julia Nielsen

Mezzo-Soprano

Danish mezzo-soprano Jasia Nielsen started her musical education at the Music Academy of Sankt Annae Gymnasium in Copenhagen . She studied music and dance at the University of Copenhagen before going to start her post-graduate studies in operatic and concert singing at the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany .

Extensive operatic work includes the roles of Cherubino (Mozart; Le Nozze di Figaro ), Dorabella (Mozart; Cosi fan Tutte ), Dido (Purcell; Dido and Aeneas ) and the Second Lady (Mozart; Die Zauberflöte ), as well as roles in Offenbach 's La Vie Parisienne and Puccini's Gianni Schicci . She recently sang the role of Olga in a concert performance of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin in Oxford Town Hall with Oxford City Opera.

Jasia has participated in master classes with Dame Felicity Lott, Graham Johnson, Robin Bowman, Wolfram Rieger, SarahWalker, Vera Rosza and Rudolph Jansen. She has been soloist in many choral concerts, ranging from Bach (including several cantata performances in the 'Bach Year', 2000), through Mozart and Haydn (with Christ Church Cathedral Choir in 2004), to Duruflé and Dvorak.

In the field of Lieder singing, Jasia has given many recitals in Germany , Denmark and the UK . She has given solo recitals in the Oxford Lieder Festival in 2002 and 2003. Other recent concert performances have included a programme of Schubert, Debussy, Korngold and Mahler in Lübeck, and a concert of the Schumann Spanisches Liebeslieder and solo songs as part of the St Sepulchre Festival in London .
