Kate Royal
Born in London Kate studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Awards include a Boise Foundation scholarship, Bruce Millar Award, Countess of Munster Trust Award, Sybil Tutton Award and Clonter Prize 2002.
Concert performances include her Wigmore Hall debut in March 2003 with Eugene Asti, Mozart's Exultate Jubilate (London Festival Orchestra), her proms debut in 2000 with Tavener's Samaveda, and an evening of 'Classic Carols' at the Royal Albert Hall with the London Philharmonia. She recently recorded a recital of Brahms and Duparc for Radio 3's 'voices' programme.
Roles include Cephise Pygmalion (Early Opera Company), Vittoria Orfeo , St. John's Smith Square, the title role in Handel's Susanna at GSMD and 1st Cretian woman Idomeneo at Glyndebourne. She will continue her studies at the National Opera Studio this year and understudy the role of Ilia for Glyndebourne Touring Opera. She continues to study with Rudolf Piernay.
Kate Royal is the winner of the 2004 Kathleen Ferrier Award. Her future opera engagements include Woglinde (Das Rheingold) under Sir Simon Rattle at the BBC Proms, the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Iris (Semele) for Scottish Opera and both First Lady (Die Zauberfloete) and Helena (A Midsummer Night's Dream) for the Glyndebourne Festival.
