Recent highlights, including GRAF in Stephen Medcalf’s production of Capriccio for Grange Park Opera, GUGLIELMO Così fan tutte and SCHAUNARD La Bohème for Opera North, and DANDINI La Cenerentola for Garsington Opera, have established Quirijn de Lang as a significant operatic talent.

His very recent interpretations of CHRISTUS in the first Dutch staged version of Bach's Johannes Passion for De Nationale Reisopera, and SELIM Il Turco in Italia at the opening of Garsington Opera's new theatre garnered great public and critical acclaim. Future engagements include Cendrillon at La Monnaie, PANTALONE L'Amour des 3 Oranges for The Netherlands Opera, and YELETSKY Pique Dame and RICCARDO I Puritani for Grange Park Opera in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Born in The Netherlands, he initially graduated from the Department of Biology at the University of Amsterdam, before going on to study at both the Milanese Scuola di Musica and the prestigious Curtis Institute, Philadelphia. His early performances as GOBINEAU in Menotti’s The Medium, DEMETRIUS in Midsummer Night’s Dream and PELLÉAS Pelléas et Mélisande (all for the Curtis Opera Theatre) quickly brought him to the attention of a wider public, and were followed by highly successful European debuts including PAPAGENO Die Zauberflöte, conducted by Ton Koopman, which won him Best Performance 2000.

Subsequent significant appearances have included OTTONE in Handel’s Agrippina with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam (available on DVD), OTTOKAR Der Freischϋtz, PETE DAYTON in Neuwirth’s Lost Highway for English National Opera, FILIPPO Beatrice di Tenda in Rotterdam, PAPAGENO Die Zauberflöte for Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg and THE COUNT in Scottish Opera’s The Secret Marriage.

In addition he made a series of highly-successful appearances at De Vlaamse Opera including MARCO Gianni Schicci (directed by Robert Carsen), HARLEKIN Ariadne auf Naxos, and a critically-acclaimed performance in the title role in Hendrickx’s Achilleus.

A consummate recitalist, he specializes in the song repertoire of Schumann, Wolf and Fauré, as well as the work of modern American composers as Barber and Rorem, and the Italian composers of the early 1900's.
