Rowan Hellier

Mezzo-Soprano

Mezzo Soprano Rowan Hellier was born and grew up in Perthshire, Scotland.  She studied at both the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and on the Opera Course at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  Operatic Roles include Cherubino Le Nozze di Figaro Welsh National Opera, Sesto Giulio Cesare  Glyndebourne Festival Opera (Cover), Balkis La Rencontre Imprevue  GSMD, Hänsel  Hänsel und Gretel GFO (Cover), Mazet La Colombe GSMD, Zweite Dame Die Zauberflöte GSMD, Mercedes Carmen Haddo House Opera.  She was a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus for the 2007 season.

Rowan has also had much experience on the Oratorio and Recital platform. Performances include the Oxford Lieder Festival, Handel House, LSO St. Luke’s and on BBC Radio 3 as part of the Barbican Composer of the Month series. Most recently, she sang the role of Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment conducted by Laurence Cummings in the Auditorio de Galicia in Santiago.

Future engagements include Kitchen Boy Rusalka GFO (Cover) and Dorabella Cosi fan tutte Glyndebourne on Tour (Cover).  She is kindly supported by a Sybil Tutton Scholarship, the Ogden Trust, the Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship Trust and is a Samling Scholar.
