Song Circle
Royal Academy of Music Song Circle
Each year a small group of the Royal Academy of Music’s most accomplished performers of song repertoire are selected to form Song Circle.
Since its inception in 2004, Song Circle has given more than twenty concerts, performing repertoire including the Lied of Beethoven, Brahms, Humperdinck, Loewe, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann, Silcher, Strauss and Wolf. Its performances have included recitals focussing on settings of poems by Goethe and Mörike, as well as thematic programmes on Spring, Spain, Seduction and Farewell. Song Circle’s annual Schubertiade, on or around the anniversary of the composer’s birth, has become a much-anticipated feature of the Academy’s calendar.
As well as regular concerts at the Royal Academy of Music, Song Circle has twice given concerts at London’s Wigmore Hall. Song Circle has made two CD recordings, and a third, “Goethe’s Girls and Mörike’s Men” is currently in production.
