Born in Ikast (Denmark), Bo Skovhus studied at the Conservatory in Aarhus, at the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen, and in New York. His career began 1988 at the Volksoper in Vienna with Don Giovanni. In 1997 he was awarded the title of Austrian Kammersänger.

When he recently portrayed Reimann's Lear in the new production of the Hamburg State Opera, he brought the house down and the press spoke of the "role of his life". Another highlight was Nick Shadow / THE RAKE’S PROGRESS in Düsseldorf and Vienna as well as the creation of the monodrama SIEGFRIED, NOCTURNE which was written for Bo Skovhus by Michael Jarrell on lyrics by Oliver Py at the occasion of the Wagner Festival 2013 in Geneva. Other events include Conte Almaviva / NOZZE DI FIGARO under Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Theater an der Wien as well as in Düsseldof, Amfortas / PARSIFAL in Berlin, Lear in a revival in Hamburg, Nick Shadow / THE RAKE’S PROGRESS in Torino, Kurwenal in a concert version of TRISTAN UND ISOLDE in Auckland as well as recitals with Schubert’s WINTERREISE with Simone Young as accompanist at the Sydney Opera, a concert at the Opera Festival of Copenhagen, Graf in a revival of CAPRICCIO in Chicago as well as recitals with Schubert’s SCHÖNE MÜLLERIN, WINTERREISE or SCHWANENGESANG in
Louisiana, Kolding, Den Haag, Aalborg, Amsterdam and Brussels. In December 14 & January 15, Bo could be heard as Danilo / LUSTIGE WITWE in Cologne and in January/February 15 as Peter / HÄNSEL UND GRETEL in Madrid followed by a combination of Dallapiccola’s IL PRIGIONIERO and Zimmermann’s EKKLESIASTISCHE AKTION in Cologne as well as orchestra concerts with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
For the opening production at the Salzburger Festspiele 2015 with DIE EROBERUNG VON MEXICO, Bo Skovhus was invited to sing and perform the part of Cortez. It turned out into a big success and Bo Skovhus was highly praised by the press and the public.

Mandryka / ARABELLA at the Staatsoper Dresden and Eisenstein / FLEDERMAUS at the Staatsoper München under Kirill Petrenko, Beckmesser / DIE MEISTERSINGER and KING LEAR at the Opéra de Paris/Bastille, Beckmesser / DIE MEISTERSINGER in semi-staged performances at the Budapest Festival.
Actual and future projects: a world creation of Arno Schreier’s HAMLET as well as Werner Egks PEER GYNT at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, concerts with Frank Martin’s JEDERMANN MONOLOGE at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, orchestrated Schubert songs in Dortmund, recitals in München-Grünwald, Fürth and at the Oxford Festival, new productions of GRAF VON LUXEMBURG and WOZZECK in Düsseldorf, Mandryka / ARABELLA at the Vienna State Opera, a Matthias Pintscher Creation under Christoph Eschenbach for the inauguration ceremonies of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, concerts with LEAR FRAGMENTE in Dresden, Conte Almaviva in new production of NOZZE DI FIGARO and Tamare / DIE GEZEICHNETEN at the Cologne Opera followed by Dr. Schön / LULU at the Vienna State Opera and at the Hamburg State Opera, Eisenstein / FLEDERMAUS as well as Šiškov / From the House of Dead at the Munich State Opera, etc.
Besides his performances in the major opera houses in Europe, America and Japan, Bo Skovhus devotes himself intensively to lied singing: together with pianists such as Helmut Deutsch, Stefan Vladar, Andreas Haefliger, Yefim Bronfman, Leif Ove Andsnes, Christoph Eschenbach and Daniel Barenboim he gives lied recitals in the world's most renowned music centers.
As a concert singer Bo Skovhus has appeared with outstanding orchestras throughout Europe, USA and Japan. His extensive repertoire focuses on works of Gustav Mahler and of Scandinavian composers, as well pieces like Frank Martin's Jedermann Monologues and Zemlinsky's Lyrische Symphonie.
