Mats Lidström


As an international soloist and chamber musician, Mats Lidström has gained a reputation for performances of great insight and virtuosity. He has been a member of the Royal Academy of Music since 1993, currently attached to Oxford University through his solo cello position with the Oxford Philharmonic&Soloists. Mats has recorded as a soloist and chamber musician for EMI, DECCA, BIS, Deutsche Grammophon and Hyperion. His compositions include Rigoletto Fantasy for cello and orchestra, Suite Tintin for cello and piano, and Marche Triomphale for two pianos and percussion. His orchestral past includes leading the cello sections of the LSO, Philharmonia, Bournemouth, Royal Liverpool, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish, as well as the Concertgebouw, the Los Angeles and Oslo Philharmonic, and the major orchestras of Sweden. Mats is the founder of the annual cello course Expansion.
