João Araújo


João Araújo recently graduated from the Master of Performance course in Piano Accompaniment at the Royal College of Music with Distinction where he studied with Simon Lepper, Nigel Clayton and Roger Vignoles. He was a RCM Award Holder supported by a Barry Shaw Award.

During these years, João played in masterclasses of Kiri Te Kanawa, Simon Keenlyside, Zuill Bailey, Edith Wiens, Ann Murray, Graham Johnson and performed in many venues in London including Wigmore Hall (German Song OnStage), Cadogan Hall (Rising Stars Series), V&A Museum and Southbank Centre (Stravinsky Festival). He was awarded accompanist prizes in the RCM’s Brooks-van der Pump English Song and Joan Chissell Schumann Competition and was nominated for the Gerald Moore Award.

As a frequent orchestral pianist, he performed several times with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, working with composers such as Steve Reich and David Lang (including the UK premiere of his piece Increase). He was the pianist selected for the BBC Symphony Orchestra Pathway Scheme.

He founded Duo Dalma with soprano Marie Lys in 2016. Together they were selected for Das Lied (Germany) and Wigmore Hall Song Competition (London) and performed several recitals in the UK and Switzerland, including the Festival Schubertiade Espace 2 broadcasted by the Radio Télévision Suisse.

João’s upcoming performances include an appearance at the Royal Albert Hall with Joel Williams and recitals in Switzerland and Portugal.
