Katie Macdonald


British mezzo-soprano Katie Macdonald is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied with Sarah Pring and Adrian Thompson. Her studies were generously supported by The Behrens Foundation, The Kathleen Trust and The Mario Lanza Foundation.

In the past few years Katie has had considerable success in competitions, winning the 2021 Susan Longfield Prize, the 2021 Chartered Surveyors Competition, and was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition, The GSMD English Song Prize and Camille Coloratura Awards.

Her recent projects include a lunchtime recital with LSO Discovery, workshops with Royal Opera House’s composer in residence, recording a selection of Rutter’s Christmas Carols for Classic FM and even featuring in the Tesco Christmas Advert!

Recent opera engagements include working with West Green House Opera, St James’s Piccadilly, British Youth Opera, GSMD Opera and Melos Sinfonia.

Upcoming projects include recording Stravinsky’s Mass with the LSO, a trio recital at The Actors Church in Covent Garden, a contract with Grange Park Opera and a newly commissioned opera in association with SkyArts.

Aside from performing, Katie has been involved with the Irene Taylor Trust’s Music in Prisons projects and Breathe Arts Health Research, an organization that aims to bring the arts into clinical settings.
