Pianist James Baillieu is the first of our Guest Tutors this year, following his recital with Ailish Tynan on Saturday. James is a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music and the head of the song programme at the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique.
Our two venues are only a few minutes’ walk from each other and observers are welcome to move between sessions with Joan Rodgers and James Baillieu, which run concurrently.

Internationally renowned, Joan Rodgers is equally established in opera, concert, and as a recitalist. She has appeared in concert with conductors including Solti, Barenboim, Mehta, Harnoncourt, Mackerras, Ashkenazy, Salonen and Rattle and has been a regular guest at the BBC Proms. James Baillieu
Pianist
Born in South Africa, James studied in Cape Town and London. He was a Borletti-Buitoni Trust and Young Classical Artist Trust artist and was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society Outstanding Young Artist Award and the Chamber Music and Song Award. He is an International Tutor in Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music and head of the Song Programme at the Atelier Lyrique of the Verbier Festival Academy.
