7pm (free): Pre-concert talk given by Richard Wigmore
The conclusion of Wolf’s wonderful collection of Spanish folk poetry, performed by an exceptional team of singers. The ten sacred and 34 secular songs of the Spanisches Liederbuch were written in between October 1889 and April 1890 and stand alongside the Italienisches Liederbuch and Mörike Lieder as representative of this great song composer at the height of his powers. This concert is being recorded as part of Oxford Lieder’s survey of the complete songs of Hugo Wolf.
