Sensational Belgian soprano Sophie Karthäuser makes a welcome return to the Festival with pianist Eugene Asti. Paul Éluard, one of the founders of the surrealist movement, was a favourite poet of Francis Poulenc. The complex German poet and pastor Eduard Mörike was set by Robert Schumann but perhaps found his greatest advocate in music in the music of Hugo Wolf.
