Robin Bowman, born in London in 1948, studied as a musicologist at King’s College London under Thurston Dart between 1966 and 1971, whilst also pursing performance studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. From 1973 until 1985 he was a music lecturer at the University of Southampton, where one of his main tasks was the establishment of weekly performance seminars as part of the core undergraduate programme.
