Polish tenor Jan Petryka begins our lunchtime series, held in the round in the Sheldonian Theatre, with a captivating programme of songs by Chopin and Paderewski – who surely holds a unique place in history as composer, pianist and Prime Minister of Poland! – as well as Moniuszko, Szymanowski and others.

Born in Warsaw into a family of musicians, Jan Petryka first graduated as a cellist at Kunstuniversität Graz before completing his studies in ‘Lied und Oratorium‘ (with Marjana Lipovsek and Rotraud Hansmann) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
