PASSES ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO THE SWEDISH WEEKEND - CLICK HERE
This year, we are delighted to present a weekend celebrating Swedish song. We welcome a superbly talented set of artists, including Miah Persson, Anna Larsson and Susanna Andersson; performing works by well-established composers such as Nystroem and Stenhammer, as well as the world première performance of Carin Bartosch Edström’s Four Nocturnal Songs.
As a part of this weekend, Oxford Lieder makes its first foray into orchestral lieder. Njabulo Madlala and Ida Falk Winland perform Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Symphony no. 4 with the Aurora Orchestra, one the country’s most exciting chamber orchestras, in this must-see concert!
As well as these concerts, Bo Skaström from the University of Stockholm, and mezzo-soprano Mae Heydorn will be giving a lively introductory talk on singing in Swedish. We are also thrilled to welcome baritone Håken Hakegård, who will be working in masterclass with some talented young musicians, as well as a Q&A following a screening of Ingmar Bergman’s enchanting film of Mozart’s Die Zaubeflöte.
The Swedish Weekend would not be possible without the very generous support of: Musik I Syd, the Embassy of Sweden, Gehrmans Musikförlag (click here to download their remarkably comprehensive Swedish Song Catalogue) and Nota Bene Productions.
