Weißer Jasmin (1895) Op. 31 no.3

Weißer Jasmin

Bleiche Blüte, Blüte der Liebe,
Leuchte über dem Laubendach,
Ruf’ in klopfenden Mädchenherzen,
Blüte der Liebe, die Sehnsucht wach!
Deiner Kelche verströmender Atem
Zittert, verzittert so schwer und stark,
Schwül von deinen duftenden Kronen
Weht der Nachtwind über den Park.
In der Laube lauschen zwei Augen.
Zögert und zagt ein Mädchenmund,
Sorge dich nicht und laß dich küssen,
Sieh, nur Sträucher raunen im Rund.
Und es ruft dir im pochenden Herzen
Weißer Jasmin die Seele wach—
Weiße Blüte, Blüte der Liebe
Leuchte über dem Laubendach.

White jasmin

Pale blossom, blossom of love,
Gleam above the leafy canopy,
Awaken longing in the throbbing
Hearts of girls, O blossom of love!
The breath streaming from your calyx
Trembles, trembles away so heavy and strong,
Sultry from your fragrance,
The night wind drifts across the park.
In the arbour two eyes are spying,
A girl’s mouth hesitates and wavers,
Cast care aside and let yourself be kissed,
Look!—only shrubs are whispering around you.
And in your throbbing heart,
White jasmin awakens your soul.
White blossom, blossom of love,
Gleam above the leafy canopy.
