Rodina, shchaslivyi i neiskhodnyi chas! ('O my homeland, O joyful and eternal hour') (1987)

Part of a series or song cycle:

Otchalivshaya Rus'

Rodina, shchaslivyi i neiskhodnyi chas! ('O my homeland, O joyful and eternal hour')

O Rodina, shchaslivyi
i neiskhodnyi chas!
Net luchshe, net krasivei
tvaikh karovyikh glas.
Tibe, tvaim tumanam
i oftsam na palyakh,
nisu, kak snop afsyanyi,
ya sontse na rukakh.
Sviatis’ pripoloveniem,
i rozhdestvom sviatis’,
shtop zhazhdushchie bdeniya
bessmertiem napilis’.
I ni edinyi kamen’,
cheris prashu i luk,
ne padabyot nad name,
padyatie Bozhikh ruk.

O my homeland, O joyful and eternal hour

Oh my homeland,
Joyful and eternal hour!
There is nothing finer nor more beautiful
Than you cowlike eyes.
To you, to your mists
And fields of sheep, I bear,
Like a sheaf of oats,
The sun in my arms.
May you be sanctified by Whitsuntide
And sanctified by Christmas,
And let the vigils that thirst
Drink their fill of immortality.
And not a single stone,
Whether from sling or bow,
Will strike God’s arms,
Stretched out above us.
