Traumwald (1999)

Part of a series or song cycle:

Dream forest

Tonight I walked through a forest in my dream
It was full of horror After the alphabet
With empty eyes that no look can comprehend
Stood the animals between tree and tree
Chiselled by frost into stone Out of the lane
Of pines towards me through the snow
Came walking do I dream do I see what I see
A child in armour and visor
Under his arm a lance Whose tip gleams
In the dark firs that the sun drinks
The last trace of day one golden stripe
Behind the dream forest that beckons us to die
And during the blink between thrust and stab
My face looked at me: I was that child.
