A Estrela  (1893) Op. 10

Part of a series or song cycle:

Canções portuguesas (Op. 10 )

A Estrela

Há uma estrela no céu
que ninguém vê senão eu:
inda bem, inda bem!
que não a vê mais ninguém,
que não a vê mais ninguém.
Como as outras não reluz,
mas dá tão serena luz,
que inda bem, que inda bem,
não a vê mais ninguém,
não a vê mais ninguém.
No caminho azul do céu,
onde ela está, não digo eu
a ninguém, a ninguém!
sei-o eu só: inda bem,
sei-o eu só: inda bem.

The Star

There is a star in the sky
Beheld only by my eye:
Just as well, just as well!
May no one else see it,
may no one else see it.
Unlike the rest it won’t shine bright,
But gives off such serene light,
Just as well, just as well!
May no one else see it,
may no one else see it.
In the sky’s deep blue repose,
Where it is, I won’t disclose
To anyone, to anyone.
Only I know: just as well,
Only I know: just as well.
