Frühlingstrost
(1873)
Op. 63 no.1
Springtime comfort
Narcissus scent wafts around me,the springtime breeze speaks to me:Beloved,awake in the red glow of dawn,a blossom-laden wreath awaits you,sad one!But you must fight for it and actand no longer repose in dreams;let them vanish!Come, dear one, come out into the field,you will find it in the green houseof leaves.We all wish you well,you poor love-sick child,we fragrances;you were always our faithful playmate,so you will be gladly and swiftly servedby the breezes.We’ll bear your sighs to your belovedand garland her bedchamberwith blossoms.We will, when you leave herand stand sad and lonely,watch over her.Awake in the red glow of dawn,your myrtle wreath awaits you,beloved!The springtime brings glad tidings,so no more sighs and tears,sad one!

Frühlingstrost
Es weht um mich Narzissenduft,
Es spricht zu mir die Frühlingsluft:
Geliebter,
Erwach im roten Morgenglanz,
Dein harrt ein blütenreicher Kranz,
Betrübter!
Nur musst du kämpfen drum und tun
Und länger nicht in Träumen ruhn;
Lass schwinden!
Komm, Lieber, komm aufs Feld hinaus,
Du wirst im grünen Blätterhaus
Ihn finden.
Wir sind dir alle wohlgesinnt,
Du armes, liebebanges Kind,
Wir Düfte;
Warst immer treu uns Spielgesell,
Drum dienen willig dir und schnell
Die Lüfte.
Zur Liebsten tragen wir dein Ach,
Und kränzen ihr das Schlafgemach
Mit Blüten.
Wir wollen, wenn du von ihr gehst,
Und einsam dann und traurig stehst,
Sie hüten.
Erwach im morgenroten Glanz,
Schon harret dein der Myrtenkranz,
Geliebter!
Der Frühling kündet gute Mär,
Und nun kein Ach, kein Weinen mehr,
Betrübter!
Springtime comfort
Narcissus scent wafts around me,
the springtime breeze speaks to me:
Beloved,
awake in the red glow of dawn,
a blossom-laden wreath awaits you,
sad one!
But you must fight for it and act
and no longer repose in dreams;
let them vanish!
Come, dear one, come out into the field,
you will find it in the green house
of leaves.
We all wish you well,
you poor love-sick child,
we fragrances;
you were always our faithful playmate,
so you will be gladly and swiftly served
by the breezes.
We’ll bear your sighs to your beloved
and garland her bedchamber
with blossoms.
We will, when you leave her
and stand sad and lonely,
watch over her.
Awake in the red glow of dawn,
your myrtle wreath awaits you,
beloved!
The springtime brings glad tidings,
so no more sighs and tears,
sad one!
